Erie Evangelical Free Church story is not long but it is certainly a rich and adventurous one.
A group of people from the Erie area began meeting in July of 1977, first in the Portland Elementary School then in the Erie Public Library. In November, 1978 the congregation moved to the Erie Elementary School, and in December 1979 a part-time pastor was called. An official charter for the Erie Evangelical Free Church was signed on February 26, 1980.
The church began to rent its present facility in July of 1980 and in May of 1986, the building and 38 surrounding acres were purchased at less than one-fourth of the original asking price! By God’s grace, the mortgage was paid in full in just over seven years. A remodeling project was undertaken in 1987 to expand the sanctuary and, in 2005, an elevator was installed.
